Bro, I do not think you are allow to move the ball as per the rule of golf without penalty. You need to play as it lie.

Try to hold shorter and putt with a rescue or FW club rather then a putter when you come across the same situation again.

you are not allow to move the ball because your unable to putt it well. it is against the rules. You will impose 1 shot penalty.

Friendly game - move the ball to the apron is the common practise, if on betting situation depends on opponent permission

For official tournament - never change the ball position. Play as it lies

For me, try to practise the ball in that such condition, maybe u can bend ur putter to the front a bit so that possible solid contact can happen. Hybrid also is another option. Practise makes perfect. Even tiger can hit like a left handed golfer but need to change the right-handed club position. Be creative.

My 2 cents

you never move the ball near the green. in any kind of game unless your opponent lets you. you learn to putt it with your wedge or use downward strike on your putter. another good option i like is use your hybrid and put like a belly putter
