Guys, i attempt to find a golf set for my wife and need your kind advice.

Currently she's using a second hand set i bought for her years back, very old Maruman with steel shaft and some "Rojak" woods Embarassed, the coach teaching her recommended her new set complete with 1,3,5 wood, all irons, wedges and putter, cost around RM 1,600 to RM 2,000

Ok, my personal opinion, instead of buying new but low end product (Don't mean to offend one's feeling, solely personal view) ending up playing with some equipment we don't like or let it get dusty in the store is definitely not a popular measure. But getting quality new set sure cost me a bomb!

1. I tried to source around for quality preowned set, but ladies set is just so limited
2. Buy clone; as recommended by Learn About Golf, but just not too sure if it is suitable for my wife, reason being; i've got her a lady #3 Hybrid but seems too heavy for her, her swing is just far too slow
3. Just take the coach's advice, buy the complete set. Ladies don't really that fussy like guys ?

What do you say???

PFD, usually a serious golfer will have change minimum 2 golf sets.

for me, I will go for second hand set, with still a good condition. Once she is really into golf, then looks for one that suitable to her game.

either buying original or clone, is very much your budget.

I dun know that well about your coach, but just to let you know, take a second opinion because he may just want to sell. Just my opinion, no offense.

888,

My 1st set is a Japanese spec'd cavity back, graphite shafted and plays softer than' R'.

I would like offer it for your Missus. No strings attached. The lighter graphite shaft may help abit. No harm trying. Who know's once the Missus upgrades, the set can go to anothr newbie.

LMK.

Mmmm!

I think non of us showing favor to new but low end set, hence, quality preowned and the clone should be the better choice! So i set option 3 aside.

Talk of the clone, i believe the design targets the western (as they are taller and physically stronger

Mr. Green) and that's why the #3 hybrid is too heavy for my wife?
ok, i also got myself 3 pcs of clone hybrid and tried one of it; not too bad at all! I may have to seek for Learn About Golf's opinion.. Laughing (Just wonder LAG is reading?)

So, i think i should start searching for preowned set. BTW, i am not familiar with the models since left golfing for years, i shall appreciate very very much if you guys can recommend me some brands especially the models suitable (but not vintage like she's having) lady set, doesn't matter if i have to buy woods and irons separately .. she's 5' 2" tall, 40+ age, 50kg, swing extremely slow..

AccidentalGolfer, what's the set you are offering ?

CSL, you are right about "Will not carry long" as i personally experienced, bought an underpower car, cheaper, then spent 20-30k to upgrade... end up sell it off, know why?.. Tul*n ! Evil or Very Mad

Magic, i always read your posting and think that you are more than "Serious Golfer".. we call it 发烧友 ! I am sure you have used many sets rather than "Have more than 2 set" right? Ha ha!

Merry Christmas

Instead of second opinion, i've got many many useful opinions, why not?
Any specific model from the brands mentioned?
Magic deserves a credit Laughing
TW=Tiger Wood or The Womanizer (anyone name himself TW here?)
Wonder you refused to comment over clone club... aha!
I was educated in chinese, hang around with hokkien. And in order to learn new language or dialect, how/what do start off? Laughing

Magic,

I got the same problem whenever take-up new hobby... keep spending money(lucky not a big one), buying equipments. Being too serious in golf, not golf sick, but golf freak, i call it !

I bought these,

1. ping eye2, beryllium copper, still keep it
2. Browning, very special look, gave it to someone
3. Cleveland TA 4 or 5, can't remember, lost when my truck was stolen
4. Big Bertha 2004 steel shaft, swing at home breaking the floor tiles
5. Ditto, but graphite and using now

All preowned.

My game shitty!

Kinda narrow vote with two participants for three questions? Very Happy

I agree with magic about the coach 'just selling'. But being optimistic, he may have the right set for the Missus.

How about a visit to a clubfitter. I'd drop by and have a chat with them. I'd tell them the concern of wasting 'unneccesary' money. A good fitter will not pressure you. Just tell him/them your intention and he/they should be willing to share some info. With the feedback and other info you have gathered, hopefully you can make a decision that is the best available, although not the end-all solution.

In the absence of the above, any set with light shaft ( 'L' flex) and deep cavity head design is adequate for a more enjoyable re-intro to the game for Mrs.PFD888.

When the Missus improves, I'm sure you'll be looking for a fitted set ( going Magic's route) and the friendly fitter will be on top of your list. Hopefully, by then, the value of custom fitting will be understood better.

That's the progression I envision it should be done.
My humble opinion.
