Here's something to share with everyone on this lazy afternoon workday!

How many times have we all heard from the touring pros about trusting & committing to your swing while playing on the course. Where they said, to play one shot at a time, and concentrating on executing the right kind of shot and on course management, ie. missing shots at the right places.

Golf is a game of misses. You'd try to limit your mistakes and hopefully get some pars and even birdies in the process. When a golfer started to trust his or her own swing, and in the zone, he or she will start shooting low scores. The advise here is not to overthink yourselves especially relating to swing mechanics, etc. but instead let the swing happens naturally!

When we start overthinking our swing, you tend to try too hard and bad things will definitely happen. From then on it is downhill all the way as your confidence level will start to erode and you start to question your own swing. Many of us have been there and done that.

So...learn to trust your own swing, play within yourself, and play smart on the course and limit your mistakes. When you start trusting your swing, you will start seeing low scores and enjoy playing golf again.

Trust me, I've been there.....in fact more than 3 months ago, I was suffering from "Paralysis by Analysis" syndrome and was plagued by the shanks and was practically playing very badly. Then one day, I just adopted this mind set of trusting my own swing and not overanalyzing it and ever since then I have been playing some of the best scores of my life!

i really second this, trust your swing. seems that when i play more actively, (once a week lah), my scores get progressively worse as i tend to over analyse. and yet, when i come back from a long lay off (few months never play), i tend to play better as i dont put pressure on myself, and just simply play. my best score of 92 (im a hopeless player) was achieved after 5 months never play, but i regularly play in the 110 range

I agree with TS, but my case was pretty funny to think back!

I had played some really good golf (to me) and when I first got my handicap card I was surprised myself. It was 3 months back when I started playing really badly as I need to lay off for a month, that was when things gotten really bad.

Till just last Sunday, I was playing in Bukit Beruntung. I completed my first 9 with 10 over par, with my mind thinking about swing and all the mechanics! I was so frustrated on the 9th hole as the course condition was really, really bad. Imagine bad course & bad swing. I just shut off my mind and told myself to complete the next 9 and look forward to the lunch.

I completed the 2nd 9 in 4 over par, which I have not done it for more than 3 months already. What I have in mind is, target and swing.

It is really crucial to not have swing thoughts before you make your swing, work on your swing at the range and bring the results to the field. Of course you will need proper basics to play better, but trust me, when you have a clear and target oriented mind, you will play much better golf!

Recently on Malaysia Day 16/9, I broke 80 for the first time after coming reasonably close a few times earlier this year. And this was done while playing for the first time on course my newly purchased and untested (on course) set of irons.

Had a round of 78 with 4 birdies, 8 pars, 3 bogeys, 2 double bogeys & 1 triple bogey.

My thoughts during the round were mainly on course management, ie. hitting it at the right places and playing one shot at a time. Basically, trusting my own swing and swing with confidence.

The 3 badly played holes were due to sudden lapse of concentration and loose swings.

Yup, to consistently break 80 (already achieved my golf resolution for the year) and maybe to play par golf too if possible. Very Happy
