Kuala Lumpur, 26 July 2018: The prestigious Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) will host 100 of the most promising female amateur golfers from Malaysia and the region for the 44th edition of the RSGC Ladies Amateur Open, held over the weekend of August 10 to 12, 2018. The event is being held in conjunction with the RSGC’s 125th Anniversary and to mark the significant occasion, the RSGC unveiled its first ever tournament logo today.

This year the historic tournament welcomes players from Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia and for the first time Bangladesh, Kazakhtan and Sri Lanka. The players will compete for the four coveted trophies – Tuanku Bahiyah (Gross Champion), Toh Puan Norashikin (Nett Champion), Datin Azian (Team Gross Champion) and Clarissa Lee (Team Nett Champion). The event is open to amateur players with a USGA handicap of 17.4 and lower.

The annual 3-day championship attracts some of the most talented women in the sport, many of whom are recognised on the World Amateur Golf Ranking. The Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking system lists the top female amateur golfers around the world on the basis of their average performance in Counting Events, such as the RSGC Ladies Amateur Open (a Category D event).

“It gives us great pleasure to once again welcome friends from across Malaysia and around the region for another edition of the RSGC Ladies Amateur Open. This is the 44th year of the annual tournament and it is a particularly special occasion for us as we also mark the 125th anniversary of the Royal Selangor Golf Club,“ said Dato’ Yasmin Yusuff, Organising Chair of the Ladies Amateur Open.

“We are particularly passionate about inspiring and emboldening youth to explore their golfing potential and I’m proud to say that in recent years, we have seen an increase in participation by junior golfers. The RSGC Ladies Amateur Open establishes Kuala Lumpur as an important launch pad for rising talent and lends to the growth of the game by continuing to attract the best regional amateurs in this field,” she added.
The tournament has played a vital role in the development of local talent and the event ranks number 2 in Malaysia after the Malaysian Ladies Amateur Open, on the World Amateur Golf Ranking. In the past, the RSGC Ladies Amateur Open has produced Malaysian champions who later went on to play professionally. Among the first were Lim Ai Lian (Champion in 1991, 1997 and 1998) and Lim Siew Ai (Champion in 1996). Siew Ai, an RSGC member, who went on to become Malaysia’s first LPGA player.

This year just like last year, participants will continue to enjoy a designated Players Lounge, complimentary foot massages, professionally led warm-up stretches and transport by our official car the Kia Carnival. Fabulous hole-in-one prizes this year include a Peugeot 3008, ticket to any destination, as well as many other prizes.

For the RSGC Ladies Amateur Open 2018, the co-sponsors are Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad and Senheng Electric (KL) Sdn Bhd. Major sponsors are Agile and Metro Kajang Holding Berhad.

Hole-in-one achievers this year could win a Peugeot 3008, a pair of La Putri diamond earrings worth RM23,000, a pair of returned air-tickets to any European destinations on Qatar Airways and a Titoni watch. Impiana KLCC return once again as the Official Tournament Hotel and 100 Plus as the Official Tournament Drink. Titoni is the official tournament time keeper. Participants will be transported to and from the hotel and RSGC in five Kia Carnivals the official tournament car. There will be once again bumper goodie bags.
