The EPIC birth of the “Almost Forbidden Irons”

Callaway Golf Malaysia through Leonian Singapore has just recently launch the most awaited final two pieces to the complete line up of the EPIC series. The dream iron - “EPIC STAR Iron” and “EPIC PRO Iron” was released to all Callaway authorized dealers in the country earlier this month.

Staying true to its name “EPIC”, the “EPIC STAR Iron” and “EPIC PRO Iron” were developed without constraints of time, material and development cost, a model that deserved to be called a dream iron. These irons came to birth from the unique request of Callaway’s CEO Chip Brewer a few years back to Head of R&D of Callaway Dr. Alan Hocknell, that if he could design the very best iron that he would play, with maximum performance and without any limits to the cost or engineering process, what would that be?

With that in mind Hocknell was excited by the endless possibilities for such an ambitious project where he then dedicated more than seventy (70) of the best engineers in golf to the project with two (2) key messages: he wanted groundbreaking innovations, and there are no boundaries.

The “EPIC STAR Iron”, although it has a conventional head design with the highest ball speed and forgiveness, enables golfers to effortlessly launch the golf ball. Meanwhile the “EPIC PRO Iron” has a slightly smaller club head for better control. Both irons feature the next generation 360-face cup technology for longer average distance, a new Exo-cage structure for energy lensing and maximum coefficient of restitution (COR) and with tungsten-inner weight technology to optimize its center of gravity (CG) location. The Callaway’s technology of the “Almost Forbidden Irons” is finally revealed.

Callaway Epic Star

The Epic Star Irons dramatically enhance distance and accuracy with industry-leading ball speed technologies, low-deep CG locations, multi-material construction and an ultralight component package.

    Features & Details

Increased Swing Speed and Distance from Premium, Ultralight Components
Ultralight 55-gram Grand Bassara graphite iron shaft combines with stronger lofts and longer lengths to generate a significant boost in distance.
Longer Average Distance from Next-Generation 360 Face Cup Technology

Face Cup rim is 1 mm at its thinnest point to promote even more ball speed on center hits and further minimizing distance loss on off-center hits.
Maximum COR for Fast Ball Speed from Exo-Cage Head Construction

Exo-Cage head construction stiffens the body to allow the face to take on more impact-load and raises the COR close to the limit in each iron, promoting faster ball speed for longer distance.
Optimized CG Location from Metal Injection Molded Tungsten Infused Standing Wave Technology

Incorporating tungsten in the Internal Standing Wave allows precise CG positioning in each clubhead:
Lower in the long-irons for easier launch and long carry; higher in the short-irons for a lower, more controllable flight.

Callaway Epic Pro

Innovation Without Boundaries Epic Pro Irons use most ultra-premium materials and advance revolutionary technologies to create the highest level of ball speed, forgiveness and performance.

Features & Details

Next-Generation 360 Face Cup Technology for Longer Average Distance
Advancing the industry-leading face technology that made Callaway the #1 Iron in golf, the rim of the Face Cup is 1 mm at its thinnest point to add even more ball speed on center hits and further minimizing distance loss on off-center hits.

Exo-Cage for Energy Lensing and Maximum COR
Exo-Cage head construction stiffens the body to allow the face to take on more of the load of impact. This is known as “Energy Lensing” - it promotes faster ball speed for longer distance, and it helped raise the COR in Epic Irons right up to the limit in each iron.

Metal Injection Molded Tungsten Infused Standing Wave To Optimize CG Location
Multi-material construction demands strict tolerances, seamless fit and secure bonding. Epic Pro Irons are precision-milled and robotically welded, and every iron in this set is uniquely constructed for maximum integrity and optimum performance. Incorporating tungsten in the Internal Standing Wave allowed Callaway engineers to precisely position the CG in each individual iron. This includes a lower CG for easier launch and long carry in the long irons, higher CG in the short irons for a lower, more controllable flight, and left-to-right CG control in tandem with the hollow hosel.

High Performance Players’ Shape
A slightly smaller head, slimmer topline, thinner sole and less offset, all to promote the kind of keen feel and workability better players want.
