TaylorMade’s M1 Driver Becomes #1 Played Model In Its First Week on Both PGA Tour & European Tour

17 September 2015: In its inaugural week on both the PGA TOUR and European Tour, TaylorMade’s M1 Driver has become the number one played model on Tour at this week’s BMW Championship and Open D’Italia, respectively. With the stakes as high as they are this late in the season and players rarely making equipment changes, a multitude of players made an immediate switch based on the impressive results they saw in testing.

In just two days of fitting prior to the first round of the penultimate tournament in the FedExCup Playoffs, a total of 16 TaylorMade Tour staff players tested and were fitted into M1, electing to immediately put the company’s longest driver ever** into their bags; a true testament to the unrivaled performance of M1 in its maiden week on Tour.

The list of players who made the switch into M1 460 for the BMW Championship include:

• Jason Day, #1 in the FedExCup standings
• Dustin Johnson, #1 on the PGA TOUR in driving distance (319.9)***
• Justin Rose
• Sergio Garcia
• Fabian Gomez
• James Hahn
• Brian Harman
• Troy Merritt
• Ryan Palmer
• Brendan Steele
• Shawn Stefani
• Brendon Todd

Additionally, 4 more players added the M1 430 to their bags on Thursday. They include:
• Steven Bowditch
• J.B. Holmes
• William McGirt
• Rory Sabbatini

At the European Tour’s 72° Open D’Italia, 25 players were fit into the M1 driver this week, having only seen the product for the first time on Monday. By the start of play, M1 was the leading driver model in the field, with many more players expected to add it to the bag over the coming weeks.

Following more than two decades of advanced research and development, TaylorMade Golf, makers of the No. 1 driver in golf*, have developed a multi-material combination of a seven-layer carbon composite and titanium to unlock their longest driver in company history, M1.

*#1 Driver in Golf claim based on combined 2014 wins and usage on the PGA, European, Japan Golf, Web.com, Champions and LPGA Tours, as reported by the Darrell Survey Co. and Sports Marketing Surveys, Inc.
**Distance claim based on robot testing against TaylorMade drivers at better player club head speed
***As of week ending 9/14.

Interesting Stats on TaylorMade's Jason Day

1) Jason Day has now posted 20-under-par in three different events this season. It's the first time someone has done that three times since Tiger Woods did so in 2006.

2) This marks five wins for 27-year-old Jason Day. Throwing out Tiger Woods (who won five-plus times in five consecutive years before turning 28), the last player to win five times in a season before age 28 was Tom Watson in 1977.

3) Jason Day is now 67-under-par over his last four PGA TOUR events. The lowest four-tournament stretch this season came from Brandt Snedeker, who was 72-under from the Humana Challenge to the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

4) Jason Day becomes the second Australian to win five times in one season. The only other to do it: Jim Ferrier in 1951.

5) Through the first two rounds, Day reached 18-under-par. No one else got to 18-under for the rest of the week.
