still wonder about the non-asian course maps, it says something 33K courses available, but then only asia. I am ok to download manually other regions, but some comments suggest it's not even possible. What's the point of saying 33K courses and worldwide if in fact is is not true ? Really confusing, thank you Garmin.

I also checked on Amazon the Bushnell and Expresso WR67, but unfortunately they don't deliver this to Malaysia because of warranty issues, wow what to do, another bummer.

So I am stuck and have to wait till I travel abroad in order to buy a good international course GPS watch, boleh..

Why not hand held range finder. That would give better reading anytime.. Minus the convenience of a watch.

yes as for devices in hand, I am using iPhone + golfshot. I know some people prefer rangefinder, that's fine. I think I like the convenience of the watch to basically check the distance to green and maybe 1-2 hazards or doglegs, that's basically it. GPS watch is perfect, just get stressed with the local availability + maps..

Dear all,

I am deciding weather to get a GPS watch or rangefinder. I played my home course almost 90% of the time. Do I really need either one?? Will that improve my game? I am a 20 handicapper social golfer. Played the game for almost 8 years.

Yes actually it does help a lot. For me no guessing anymore, see the watch, select the club and swing. Btw I bought a bushnell NEO xs from amazon in US, there are some companies shipping internationally and the final price is cheaper than if you but local.

Garmin has the new Approach s6 coming out soon and I am quite keen on the swingtempo feature Laughing

https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/into-sports/golfing/approach-s6/prod138810.html

" Features swing metrics: SwingTempo, TempoTraining and SwingStrength™
Dedicated CourseView button with Green View for manual pin positioning
PinPointer blind shot assistance tells you where the pin is, even if you can’t see it
Touchscreen, high-resolution, glove-friendly
Precise distances for 38,000 international courses; no subscriptions or fees"

Problem with a number of these gps devices is that they don't list my home course in their database Sad

I like Garmin also, but keep in mind they have a dedicated Asia version vs world (non Asian). For me it's important to take it to Europe or other parts in the world..

Very true. If you're going to pay RM1k++ for it, it better be usable everywhere Laughing

Both the Bushnell and Expresso watches you can sync with the database from igolf. I understand there are 50 slots available beside the 30K+ courses pre-loaded and just recently I requested a new course (Bukit Utama) that was promptly mapped within 3 days, very happy. Very Happy

Over time I found I do not need all those additional functions some watches have, in most cases to be honest I do not even use the hazard feature most of the time. But I found it essential and a good self-'education' to simply trust your swing to the number and learn the distances. Above 10 handicap anyway do better attacking middle of the green vs the pin in general. What is important besides the distance is the design (how it looks), readability (in sunlight), battery life and that it is waterproof.

Wow! 3 days is quick! Will definitely look into that. How much did you get it for?
