Danny Chia Qualifies For CIMB Classic After Play-Off Victory In CIMB National Championship

Danny Chia will play at the CIMB Classic 2017, alongside world’s professional golfers on 12 – 15 October 2017.

Kuala Lumpur, 28 July 2017: Veteran Danny Chia secured his sixth appearance at the prestigious CIMB Classic after defeating rising star Gavin Green with a birdie on the second hole of a sudden-death play-off at the CIMB National Championship on Friday.

Overnight leader Chia battled to a final round of three-under-par 69 at TPC Kuala Lumpur after overcoming an early triple bogey with eight birdies for a tournament aggregate of eight-under-par 280.

Trailing by three at the start of the day, Green forced extra time with a glorious 66 highlighted by seven birdies. After both players shot pars in the first extra hole at the par five 18th hole, Chia then claimed his third success at the qualifying tournament for the CIMB Classic with a birdie from six feet.

Thailand’s Atiruj Winaicharonechai

Shah Alam, 25 May 2017: Thailand’s Atiruj Winaicharonechai won the MPI Generali Saujana Amateur Championship, edging Taiwan’s Chen Yi Tong in a playoff.

Atiruj, nicknamed ‘Dragon’ as he was born in the Year of the Dragon, carded a closing even-par 72 to overnight leader Chen’s 76 to force the playoff as both players tied on five-under-par after 54 holes at Saujana Golf & Country Club’s Palm Course.

Sadom Wins The 115th Malaysian Amateur Open

Kota Kinabalu, 21 May 2017: Thai teenager Sadom Kaewkanjana survived a final round tussle with compatriot Witchayanon Chothirungruengrueng to triumph in a play-off at the 115th Malaysian Amateur Open on Sunday.

Sadom had the luxury of three putts to win the prestigious championship on the first extra hole after Witchayanon had pulled his tee-shot into the water hazard and clipped his next two shots into trouble before conceding.

Johor Bahru, 20 April 2017: With the course rolling at an impressive 12 feet on the Stimpmeter on a fine Wednesday afternoon on 12rd April, the perfect setting presented Horizon Hills invited media and guests with prime conditions for yet another memorable offering of the club’s annual media golf game.

It is the club’s annual media gathering from both sides of the causeway as a strong field of 76 members of the print and electronic Singaporean and Malaysian Media and guests took to the field on Stableford System 36 format. While the majority of the participants were blown away by the super-slick greens, it was the traditional Horizon Hills hospitality that made the camaraderie. In attendance to grace the event was the Dato’ Goon Heng Wah, Executive Director of Gamuda Berhad.

MATRIX-Golf Malaysia Champion of Champions

Shah Alam, 2 May 2017: It’s a marque amateur golf event born 31 years ago and still going strong – it’s the MATRIX-Golf Malaysia Champion of Champions tournament that scored a couple of firsts this time around, both adding to its long-term lustre.

It was sanctioned by the Malaysian Golf Association for the first time and MATRIX, a high-end property developer also made its debut as title sponsor.

This year’s event was held at the picturesque Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Golf & Country Club (SAASGCC) in Shah Alam, venue for two days of intense competition between Club Champions from throughout Malaysia and Singapore, that saw winners in two categories retain the titles they won last year.
